Dr. Moller Reporting

Posted on Wed Apr 5th, 2023 @ 9:56am by Lieutenant JG Steffan Moller & Captain Ansel Benoit

942 words; about a 5 minute read

Mission: Raising the Mast
Location: Captain's Ready Room
Timeline: Prior to leaving McKinley Station

Doctor Steffan Moller materialised on the transporter padd of the USS Victory. He held a chrome case, with a black leather handle, his left hand. While his right hand held onto the strap of his duffle bag which was drapped over his right shoulder.

He stepped off the padd silently giving the transporter chief a brief nod and smile before he made his way out of the transporter room.

Steffan had studied the specs and deck listing of the New Orleans class when he learned he was being assigned to one. The medical officer navigated his way towards his new quarters. Once he'd arrived he placed the duffle bag and case on the desk. He opened the case and pulled out a PADD which had his transfer details. Before turning and exiting his quarters to make his way to the bridge.

Once on the bridge he glanced around the busy control center of the Victory but noticed the Captain was no where to be found so made his way to the ready room, where Steffan gently pressed the door chime and waited for permission to enter.

Ans had been taking both of his pets out of their cage for some much needed exercise. He hated keeping them locked up all the time and since he was most often to be found in his ready room he had placed their cages there. He generally only used his quarters for sleeping.

"Enter," Ans called to the door. Clementine was in his lap and gave a little squeak when the doors opened. "Careful, there's a guinea pig running around somewhere. Watch your step." He said as he waved the man in. "Don't worry she's not an ankle biter."

"Guinea pig?" The Doctor asked as he stepped into the ready room, looking around for the small rodant before spotting it on the Captain's lap. "Ships mascot, sir?"

"More like a hobby. They travel fairly lightly and are very social creatures. This is Clementine and Tangerine is running about somewhere. They're sisters from the same litter. My nieces gave them to me." He gave the doctor a look that said one could never turn down a gift from a niece no matter what it was. "They also named them."

"Anyway. Welcome aboard the Victory Dr. Moller. I trust you found sickbay in order?" As it was brand new nothing should have been out of place as long as everything had been installed correctly.

"I see." The Doctor replied wondering where the other rodent was and making a mental note to brush up on Guinea Pig biology. "Thank you for the welcome, Captain. I look forward to serving aboard this fine vessel. As for sickbay, ive yet to inspect the medical facilities yet, i thought it best to come and report in straight away." He said before placing the PADD with his transfer details on the Captains desk to look at.

Ans smiled. "Efficient. Always good, just don't neglect your own needs." He glanced down at it. It seemed odd to him. First the Commander and now the Doctor. He didn't remember seeing their files amongst those that he had been deciding on. But then again Starfleet worked in mysterious ways.

"Everything appears to be in order. Welcome aboard, again." Just as the words were out of his mouth, Tangerine appeared, squealing and running for the Captain's leg. Ans glanced down, one eyebrow slightly raised. "Don't let her fool you. She's fine. She does that for some reason when she explores and is gone for what she deems as too long." He gave a small shrug. "This is probably the strangest ready room you've ever been in. Tell me a little about yourself." Ans said as he reached down and picked up Tangerine, setting her on the desk in front of him.

"Of course, Captain, but needs are very small. I prefer to immerse myself into my work, hence the need to report in first. I especially love arranged a sickbay to my own standards and needs." Steffan said with a smile. "I think the usual pet for a ready room is a fish bowl of some description as its believed watching fish can be relaxing. Guinea pigs are a first.

"As for me, there isn't really much to tell. I'm quite boring really, prefer work and reading."

"Fish are boring," Ans said joking. "Well medicine can be a hobby as well as a job but as I said I wouldn't want you to work yourself to death. But if you're happy then I'm happy. Was there anything else you wanted to discuss Doctor? I should let you get settled in before I lecture you on finding a hobby."

"Oh death is my hobby, sir. Its a fascinating subject. How different species prepare their dead or how the body degrades." The Doctor replied with a smile. "Thank you sir, i do have a sickbay to arrange. Another hobby of mine, i do like an organized sickbay."

Ans smiled and shook his head slightly. "I do look forward to working with you. Let me know if there's anything you need as you get settled in."

"I'm pretty sure there will be a list of requests on your desk by tomorrow morning." The Doctor smiled. "I look forward to serving with you, sir." He added with a nod. Before turning and exiting the ready room.

Ans sat back in his chair and wondered what was going on with personnel. He shook his head and pulled up the next file without another thought in his mind.
