Mission:
Raising the Mast
Location: Captain's Quarters
Timeline: During stay at McKinley Station
Ansel Benoit came aboard in civilian clothing. He liked being able to blend in and explore his new ship without all the nods, the use of his rank or the looks that were bound to raise suspicion. After all what would a Captain be doing in the lower decks of the ship.
His first stop was his quarters. Tangerine and Clementine, though small, came with a lot of equipment and he was anxious to get them out of his arms and down on the floor where they could run and explore their new surroundings. And so, upon entering his quarters he did just that, placed them in the middle of the room and let them out of their travel cage.
Clementine, always the calmer one came out cautiously, glancing around for anything dangers. Tangerine pushed her out of the way and took off like a streak across the room into a hiding hole and back out again, squealing as loud as she could and darting every which way possible.
Ans shook his head. Guinea pigs were weird. Though he appreciated the gift and didn't want to rehome them, he wondered at his niece's choice of gift. Surely there would have been another animal that fit his personality better such as a dog or a cat. In the back of his mind he knew that the idea for the guinea pigs must have come from his youngest niece Alexandria.
Alexandria was the spitting image of her mother Keela and she also took after her in personality. She was bright, outgoing, energetic, spontaneous and for the last two months was trying to convince everyone she knew that she was in fact a horse and not a little girl. She was only four, Ans reasoned. Though he was too young to remember if Keela had gone through a similar phase he definitely thought that both were cut from the same cloth.
His elder niece Melissa was calm, collected, intelligent, and at seven years old was already an adult. She was exactly like her namesake and Aunt Melissa. Funny how things worked out like that sometimes.
Tangerine came back to him and he scooped her up. "Does it meet with your approval?" Great, now he was having a conversation with them. He set her down again, went into the bedroom and put this things on the bed.
These were nice quarters, spacious and better decorated than a lot of ships he'd been on. They seemed warm and inviting rather than dark and cold. He would put his own touches on them but they would work out nicely he was sure. He checked the time, 30 minutes until the ceremony where he was officially supposed to arrive. He dreaded this so much. Perhaps he'd just skip it and say something came up. He was in civilian clothing after all, no one would know that he had already arrived. A drink in the lounge sounded so much better. Ans made sure the guinea pigs were no where near the door as he headed out toward the Sirens Lounge. He wasn't hiding, this was a strategic move to avoid any undue stress.
