Personality & Traits

General Overview		Ethan tries to present a calm and collected exterior. However, he tries equally hard to live up to his brother's image, and often believes he is never good enough. He is loyal and a true believer in the Federation and its ideals.
Ambitions		There was a time where he wanted nothing more than to follow in the footsteps of his father and to become the Captain of his own Starship. However, after the death of his brother, Ethan only wants to live up to who he idealized his brother to be.
Hobbies & Interests		His absolute favorite activity is Parrises squares. Ethan also enjoys physical activity and getting off the ship whenever possible. He is also known to nerd out over military history. He also enjoys drilling and keeping himself in top physical shape,

Personal History		Born at Starfleet Medical Academy in San Francisco, Ethan's early life was a bit different than most. Because of the career paths his parents were on, it made sense for Leah Shaw to stay put and teach Counseling at Starfleet Medical Academy and raise the family while Ryan earned his reputation aboard starships. In the household on Earth, they could communicate over subspace with their father almost nightly but real visits were spaced between visiting him aboard various stations or yearly trips home to Earth. As a result, Ethan grew very close to his older brother. Both kids became the protector of their little sister. Leah encouraged the children to expand their horizons as they grew up around Starfleet Academy during a golden age of the Federation. It was largely a time of peace with the Romulans and Klingons with talk of border skirmishes with a far-flung Cardassian Empire. Life was grand in the walled paradise that was Earth. Having grown up idealizing his father's career and looking up to his brother, it was no surprise that Ethan followed in their footsteps and joined Starfleet Academy. Being a bit of his own person, he was led into the Security and Tactical path. He made a name for himself and many close friends on the Parrises squares team, even winning the championship at the Academy in his last year. Once he graduated, his first posting was aboard an Excelisior named Yorktown. It's main duty was to project power and interdict trade routes along the Cardassian border in the disputed areas. While generally not messed with, the ship was the occasional target of certain ambitious Cardassians who wanted to make a name for themselves in the Border Wars. Proving himself time and again, Ethan was quickly promoted. He was moved to an aging Miranda-class that was more away from the fighting. The Sojourner carried out research and helped patrol the forgotten areas around the former Klingon Neutral Zone. It was at this time that tragedy struck Ethan's world. He learned that his brother, Ryan, was killed during a ground battle as the Cardassians attempted to take a Federation outpost. The outpost held, but at the expense of many. This left Ethan devastated, but eager to be the best he could be. Soon after, Ethan became the Delta shift bridge officer and began to make a name for himself as a reliable gunner and security chief. Eventually, he caught the attention of the USS Victory.
