Personal History | Matt was born in 2325 in Aberdeen, Washington. His father is a biologist monitoring salmon runs. His mother is a geologist studying the long-term effects of tectonic control in the eastern Pacific. Foster was raised in the small town of Pacific Beach, Washington. As a child, he was fascinated by the ocean, often traveling with his parents in their work. He learned to sail from his grandfather, George. When he was 16, he joined a team who were sailing around the world using only ancient technology. During this trip, he broke his nose when a boom broke loose during a storm. Matt stayed at his station and helped the boat weather the storm. Matt attended the University of Washington, studying marine biology, intending to follow in his father's footsteps. After an accelerated program that earned him his PhD in just 4 years, Matt had been hired by the Taylor Institute of Ceteacean Studies. Foster's plans changed when he and a group of friends decided to celebrate their graduation with a trip to the Apollo landing sites on the Moon. Matt discovered that space had a greater pull on him than anything else. As soon as he got back from the Moon, Matt applied to Starfleet Academy. He was accepted and majored in astrophysics with minors in geology and chemistry. |
